Dr. Isabelle Brams is an associate in the Frankfurt office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the firm’s Litigation & Trial Department.

Isabelle advises national and international clients on questions relating to data privacy, artificial intelligence, and other aspects of EU digital law. Her main area of experience lies in defending companies in the context of proceedings for fines and damages due to possible data protection violations under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) — both on a German and EU level. In this context, Isabelle has served as lead associate in several major GDPR defense projects, including multi-million GDPR fine procedures and mass claim actions.  

Isabelle advises clients particularly:

  • On questions regarding the implementation of the GDPR and the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (EU AI Act)
  • In administrative and fine proceedings related to data protection
  • In defending against damages claims, such as those following data breaches, including advising on mass litigation projects
  • On the introduction of new digital products and processes
  • On employee data privacy, including conducting internal investigations

Isabelle has gained valuable practical experience on privacy compliance during an in-house supporting role for a client.

Isabelle holds a PhD in labor law and has contributed to numerous publications on the GDPR and the EU AI Act. She is regularly cited by various German courts, including the Federal Administrative Court and the Federal Labor Court. 

Isabelle’s experience includes advising:

  • Deutsche Wohnen in a multimillion Euro GDPR fine proceeding, now referred to the European Court of Justice
  • Daimler in landmark data privacy litigation in the German Superior Labor Court in relation to the right of access
  • A leading German car manufacturer on GDPR implementation as well as in the successful defense in fine and administrative proceedings
  • Companies from various industries on the introduction of new products and processes in the digital sector
  • US medical device manufacturers on implementing the EU AI Act when developing new medical devices
  • A US logistics company on employee data protection issues
  • Various tech companies in the context of administrative and administrative fine procedures as well as mass proceedings due to possible violations of the GDPR
