Latin Lawyer
Firm honored for outstanding work in the Latin America region.

Latin Lawyer has named Tony Del Pino, Global Chair of Latham & Watkins’ Latin America Practice, International Lawyer of the Year, recognizing his market‑leading work and sustained leadership across some of the most complex transactions in the Latin American region. The award was presented at Latin Lawyer’s annual awards ceremony on May 7 in São Paulo.

At the same ceremony, Latham & Watkins was recognized for advising on two matters honored at Latin Lawyer’s 20th Annual Awards, underscoring the breadth and depth of the firm’s Latin America platform.

International Lawyer of the Year

Latin Lawyer highlighted Del Pino’s role in steering the firm through a series of landmark transactions across the region, particularly in the energy, infrastructure, technology, private equity, and M&A markets. Since joining Latham as a partner in 2006 and assuming leadership of the firm’s Latin America Practice in 2009, Del Pino has played a central role in shaping the firm’s regional growth and advising clients on billion‑dollar, cross‑border transactions.

During 2025 alone, Del Pino led more than 13 transactions with an aggregate value of approximately US$48 billion, including FIFCO’s sale of its beverage and retail business to Heineken for US$3.2 billion, Global Infrastructure Partners’ investment in a Vale‑owned electricity business, and Davivienda’s acquisition of Scotiabank’s Colombian, Costa Rican, and Panamanian operations. He also advised Telefónica on a series of strategic divestments across Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, and Uruguay.

Latin Lawyer further recognized Del Pino’s leadership in building a diverse, deeply experienced Latin America team, supported by strategic promotions and lateral hires that have strengthened Latham’s regional capabilities.

Deal of the Year Recognitions

At the same awards ceremony, Latham & Watkins was honored for its work on two award‑winning matters:

  • M&A: Private Companies — Advising Colombia‑based financial institution Davivienda on its combination with Scotiabank’s Colombian, Costa Rican, and Panamanian operations, a transformative, multi‑jurisdictional transaction in the region’s financial services sector.
  • Corporate Finance: Capital Markets — Advising the initial purchasers on the Mexican Stock Exchange IPO by Esentia Energy, the operator of Mexico’s largest interconnected natural gas system, linking Waha, Texas, across central Mexico to the country’s key industrial regions. It was the largest initial public offering in Latin America in 2025.

Together, these recognitions reflect Latham’s ability to advise on the largest and most sophisticated transactions in Latin America, across disciplines, industries, and jurisdictions.
