Reflecting Latham’s reputation as one of the world’s elite litigation shops, the firm’s Litigation & Trial Department was honored in The American Lawyer Litigation Daily’s highly competitive Litigator of the Week column a record 35 times, a nearly 35% increase from 2020. Only one other (litigation-only) law firm appeared in the column more than Latham in 2021.
Trusted by companies, boards of directors, financial institutions, and individuals to successfully advocate on their behalf in state and federal courts, at arbitration hearings, and before regulatory and government agencies in jurisdictions around the world, Latham’s 900-plus litigators leverage the firm’s global platform to effectively and efficiently resolve clients’ most complex and novel matters.
Rising above dozens of other submissions each week to achieve a Litigator of the Week nod were important victories, including many headline-making trial wins, for the following clients: American Airlines, Astellas Pharma, Baxter International, BMW, Catalyst Pharmaceuticals, CCC Intelligent Solutions, DXC Technology, Enphase Energy, Equitrans Midstream Corporation, Ferrellgas, Funko, General Electric, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Imerys Talc America, InfoBionic, LG Energy Solution, LogMeIn, Meta, Mobile TeleSystems, NextGen Healthcare, Peloton, Power Solutions International’s former founder and CEO Gary S. Winemaster, StarKist Co., Switch, Territory of Guam, the U.S. Soccer Federation, United Therapeutics, Walworth Investments, Weatherford International, WESCO International, and Zynga.
Latham’s deep and longstanding commitment to pro bono advocacy was also highlighted by The American Lawyer. Receiving recognition this year were:
- A cross-country litigation team who, together with civil rights groups, civic organizations, and tribal and local governments, reached a historic settlement guaranteeing a more fair and more accurate US Census
- An appellate team who preserved in the Second Circuit Court of Appeals a bench trial victory which restored voting rights for Black and Latinx community members in one of New York state’s largest public school districts (also honored with Latham’s 2020 Robert M. Dell Prize for Extraordinary Pro Bono Service)
Noting the varied work honored by The American Lawyer, Global Chair of the firm’s Litigation & Trial Department Michele D. Johnson commented: “Every practice is represented here in these 35 matters, clearly illustrating Latham’s dominance across the board as one of the most fearsome litigation firms in the world in antitrust, appellate, complex commercial, intellectual property, white collar, securities, trade secrets, digital copyright, data privacy, communications, international arbitration, and bet-the-company litigation of every stripe. We are unmatched in subject matter expertise – in the technology, healthcare and life sciences, entertainment sports & media, financial services, retail, energy, and automotive industries, to name just a few. This interplay of unmatched legal skill with industry expertise allows us to truly partner with our clients – to understand and achieve their goals not only in the litigation at hand, but also for their broader legal and business objectives.
