Dual-qualified in New York and Colombia, Santiago Bejarano advises clients doing business in Latin America on a range of international arbitration and white collar matters.

Latham & Watkins LLP is pleased to announce that Santiago Bejarano has joined the firm’s New York office as a counsel in the International Arbitration Practice within the Litigation & Trial Department. Bejarano regularly represents US-based and international companies in their highest-stakes disputes and investigations, with a focus on international arbitration matters. Drawing on his in-depth understanding of Latin America’s legal systems and business practices, he helps clients successfully navigate matters involving a variety of jurisdictions, including Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Chile, and Brazil.

“We’ve been focused on strategically growing our New York office, to further expand the capabilities we can bring to bear for our clients, and welcoming Santiago to the team carries that vision forward,” said Michèle Penzer, Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins’ New York office. “He brings to our group critically important international arbitration skills, as well as experience advising clients in connection with government investigations and inquiries, white collar matters, and complex, multi-jurisdictional internal investigations.”

In addition to Bejarano, Latham has welcomed to its New York team several attorneys from an array of practices in the last three months alone, including partners Gianluca Bacchiocchi, Guido Liniado, Justin Elliott, Steven Feldman, Alison Haggerty, David Penna, and Frank Saviano.

Fernando Mantilla-Serrano, Global Co-Chair of Latham’s International Arbitration Practice, added: “Santiago is a seasoned international arbitration advocate, with experience in high-stakes arbitration matters around the globe. He comes onboard to further strengthen our International Arbitration Practice in New York, a critical arbitral hub, where he will service our growing client base on their most challenging arbitration matters. In particular, Santiago will be an invaluable resource to US clients doing business in Latin America and will contribute to our team of specialists advising investors, sovereigns and commercial parties.”

“I’m excited to join Latham and immediately get to work tapping into the firm’s renowned global platform to help my clients tackle their most complex disputes,” said Bejarano. “I’m looking forward to collaborating with my colleagues around the world to solve the cutting-edge questions that arise in international arbitration and in particular to expanding our reach in Latin America, where Latham already has a market-leading international arbitration practice.”

Bejarano joins Latham from WilmerHale. He received his LLM from the New York University School of Law and his LLB from the Universidad Del Rosario.
