Nicolas Riemann is an associate in the Hamburg office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the firm’s Antitrust & Competition Practice.

Nicolas advises on all aspects of competition law and foreign direct investment (FDI), with a focus on cross-border mergers and acquisitions. He guides clients through multi-jurisdictional transactions and helps them navigate complex matters worldwide. Nicolas represents clients both before regulatory authorities around the world (including the European Commission, the German Federal Cartel Office, and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy) as well as in proceedings before international and national courts.

Prior to joining Latham & Watkins, Nicolas worked at leading international law firms in Brussels, Hamburg, and Stuttgart advising clients on competition and trade law matters.

He is a member of the German Investment Screening Forum (Forum Investitionsprüfung e.V. ), and the Study Association of Antitrust Law (Studienvereinigung Kartellrecht e.V.).

Nicolas lectures EU Competition Law at the University of Hamburg.

Nicolas’ experience includes representing:

  • The German Federal Government in a foreign direct investment proceeding before the Higher Administrative Court of Berlin-Brandenburg
  • Cadence in its acquisition of Hexagon’s Design and Engineering Business for approximately €2.7 billion
  • dbt Labs in all-stock merger with Fivetran
  • Carlyle in its €7.7 billion acquisition of BASF Coatings Business
  • CVC in its £2 billion acquisition of Smiths Detection
  • Sealed Air in the US$10.3 billion take-private acquisition by CD&R
  • Stumpf Group on minority investment by funds managed by BDT Capital Partners in Exyte Group*
