Dr. Alan Kim is an associate in the New York office of Latham & Watkins.
Alan represents clients in patent litigation and technology transaction matters.
He advises clients on a variety of litigation and transactional matters within a wide range of technology industries, including materials, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, semiconductor, and software industries.
Alan maintains an active pro bono practice, representing individuals seeking asylum in partnership with Kids in Need of Defense (KIND), individuals suffering from human rights violations in partnership with Center for Justice & Accountability, and victims of domestic violence.
Alan earned his JD from Harvard Law School, where he received Latin honors.
Alan earned his PhD in Materials Science and Engineering based on his research into the kinetic behavior of metallic thin films for applications in nanoscale pattern formations in the semiconductor industry. Alan's research incorporated a broad variety of techniques, including those used in electrical engineering, semiconductor engineering, and materials science. As a result of his graduate research and various collaborative efforts, Alan has co-authored several scientific articles.
Prior to joining Latham, Alan worked as a product engineer at a leading manufacturer of high-technology semiconductor processing equipment.
Alan also is a chartered financial analyst (CFA) charterholder.
