Alejandro Ortiz adds further depth to the firm’s market-leading transactional capabilities in Europe.

Latham & Watkins is pleased to announce that Alejandro Ortiz will join the Madrid office as a partner in the Mergers & Acquisitions and Private Equity Practices. Ortiz advises domestic and international companies, private equity firms, and financial institutions on a variety of complex transactional matters, with a particular focus on cross-border mergers and acquisitions, takeover bids, joint ventures, divestments, and refinancings. He has earned a reputation as one of Spain’s most experienced and knowledgeable public company M&A lawyers.

“We are delighted to welcome Alejandro to the firm,” said Ignacio Gómez-Sancha, Office Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins in Madrid. “He has a stellar reputation advising on some of the most significant deals in the Spanish market and brings a wealth of experience to our existing capabilities. His arrival underscores our preeminent company M&A and private equity practice in Spain, and he will be a significant contributor to our growth plans in Spain and across Europe.”

Highly regarded in his field, Ortiz has more than two decades’ experience advising on big-ticket transactions across a range of high-growth industries, and he regularly advises boards and companies on corporate governance and regulatory matters. He also has deep experience counselling clients on a variety of complex leveraged finance, capital markets, and restructuring matters.

“Alejandro’s extensive experience advising on complex M&A deals and cross-border strategic alliances will be a major asset to our clients,” added Oliver Felsenstein, Global Chair of Latham’s Private Equity Practice. “His broad practice and client connections are highly complementary to the firm’s, and his in-depth knowledge of the business landscape and stature in the market will add significant additional firepower to our already strong transactional practice.”

“Alejandro is a great fit for our practice. He is a talented partner and strong business generator, and is widely regarded as one of Spain’s top M&A advisors,” said Charles Ruck, Global Chair of the firm’s Corporate Department. “He brings a unique combination of private equity and public company M&A experience that has a lot of synergy with our high-end corporate practice and will also benefit our strong antitrust, capital markets, finance, regulatory, and litigation practices.”

Ortiz will join the firm from Linklaters. He received a LLB in Business and Law from the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas ICADE and a Masters in Tax and Finance law through CETE at the Madrid Chamber of Commerce.
