Anthemis Economou is an associate in the Brussels office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the firm’s Global Antitrust & Competition Practice. She advises clients on all aspects of EU competition law, including:

  • Cartel defense
  • Abuse of dominance
  • Merger control
  • Antitrust compliance

Ms. Economou represents clients before the European Commission in a wide range of competition law issues. Her experience spans a number of sectors, including manufacturing, energy, food and beverage, retail, chemicals, technology, and pharmaceuticals. Ms. Economou also regularly advises clients on behavioral aspects of their business activities.

Ms. Economou is a member of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee, and serves as the local leader of the Women’s Lawyers Group.

Prior to joining Latham, Ms. Economou worked as an associate at another international law firm in Brussels, During her traineeship at the Directorate General for Competition of the European Commission, she was involved in competition matters in the manufacturing, energy and food and beverage sectors. Her previous work experience also includes advising on various aspects of Greek competition, regulatory and corporate law.

Ms. Economou is regularly involved in obtaining merger clearances for significant and complex transactions. A selection of her matters includes advising:

  • MGM in connection with its US$9 billion acquisition by a multinational technology company
  • Aon on its contemplated US$30 billion acquisition of Willis Towers Watson
  • Aon on its contemplated US$3.57 billion sale of WTW assets to Gallagher
  • Hyundai Motor Group in its US$4 billion joint venture with Aptiv to form an autonomous driving platform
  • Novelis on its US$2.8 billion acquisition of Aleris 
  • Linde on its US$46 billion merger with Praxair* 
  • SAB Miller on its €92 billion acquisition by Anheuser-Busch InBev* 
  • Intel on its €16 billion acquisition of Altera*

Ms. Economou also regularly advises clients on behavioral aspects of their business activities.
