Latham & Watkins was named Litigation Department of the Year in California by The American Lawyer at its 2020 Industry Awards, an annual program that spotlights the exceptional ways the legal industry advises and innovates.

The regional litigation award honors the successes Lathan achieved for its clients in recent litigation taking place in California courts or in national cases led by lawyers based in the Golden State. Among Latham’s nominated work was a recent victory in a sweeping insurance case win in the California Supreme Court of national importance for policyholders, and a jury verdict in federal court in favor of an innovative California-based biotechnology company.

Accepting the award on behalf of the firm, Michele Johnson, Global Chair of the Litigation & Trial Department, commented: “So many people play a role in our successes – our lawyers, paralegals, litigation support teams, and of course, our clients. My personal and sincere thanks to them all. To work with all of these people, and to be part of such an incredible global legal community, I am extremely grateful.”

Also, two litigators were among several Latham finalists for the 2020 Industry Awards: Jamie Wine, a New York partner and former Global Chair of the Litigation & Trial Department, was selected as a finalist for Litigator of the Year; and Amanda Reeves, Washington D.C. partner and Global Chair of the firm’s Global Antitrust & Competition Practice, was shortlisted in the category for Best Mentor – Law Firm.

These recognitions further cement Latham’s reputation as one of the most dominant and successful forces in litigation. The firm’s 800 plus-attorney Litigation & Trial Department also earned recognition in American Lawyer’s Lit Daily Litigator of the Week column an incredible 26 times in 2020.
