    Profile

    Maria Georgiou is an associate in the London office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the Fintech Industry Group.

    Maria advises a range of clients including technology companies, financial institutions, payments service providers, cryptocurrency platforms, and e-money platforms on all aspects of financial regulation. 

    Maria trained in the firm’s London office and completed a secondment to the firm’s New York office, gaining experience in the Corporate and Banking departments, in addition to the Fintech Industry Group.

    Experience

    • Fidelity National Information Services on regulatory aspects of its acquisitions of (i) the Issuer Solutions business of Global Payments, a payments technology company and (ii) Demica, a UK-based supply chain finance platform
    • Coinbase on its EU MiCA license submission
    • Shift4 Payments on regulatory aspects of its acquisitions of (i) Global Blue, the leading specialty payments and technology platform enabling tax-free shopping, dynamic currency conversion, and payments solutions to large retail brands and (ii) Card Industry Professionals, a UK-based provider of card payment solutions
    • An open banking and payment initiation solutions provider on securing its UK Payment Institution authorisation 
    • Fidelity National Information Services on regulatory aspects of its sale of a majority stake in Worldpay, a UK-based provider of payment processing solutions, to GTCR
    • Sedgwick on regulatory aspects of its US$1 billion strategic investment from Altas Partners
    • Marex Group plc on regulatory aspects of its US$320 million IPO of 15,384,615 ordinary shares on Nasdaq
    • A number of cryptoasset trading platforms in relation to compliance with the UK financial promotions regime
