Latham Advises Coinbase on Securing MiCA License

August 1, 2025
License reinforces Coinbase’s position as a leading cryptoasset platform across the EU.

Latham has advised Coinbase on securing its Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) license from the Luxembourg Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF) in one of the most significant and successful cryptoasset engagements in the EU over the past year.

This new licence enables Coinbase to offer a full suite of crypto products and services, not limited to buying, selling, transferring, and storing tokens, to 450 million people across all 27 European Union member states. This helps to further reinforce Coinbase’s position as a trusted leader in the cryptoasset market, particularly given the comprehensive nature of MiCA and the level of scrutiny being applied by regulators across the Union and by ESMA.

The Latham team was led by London partners Stuart Davis and Gabriel Lakeman, with counsel Alain Traill, and associates Emma Trankeenan, Cameron Jones, Imaan Nazir, Ema Uncovska, Maria Georgiou, Jasmine Hopkinson, Komal Shemar, Sam Maxson, and Jarren Wei Shen Koh.
