John Slater is an associate in the London office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the firm’s Corporate Department.

Mr. Slater advises listed and private companies and financial investors (including private equity firms and venture capital firms) across a range of sectors on mergers and acquisitions, equity capital raisings, joint ventures, as well as general corporate matters.

Prior to joining Latham, Mr. Slater worked in the corporate practice of a major international law firm, based in Brisbane. He has also spent time on secondment to a leading global mining company.

Mr. Slater's experience includes advising:

  • A major industrials company on its response to an unsolicited A$8.5 billion takeover bid*
  • A leading Japanese logistics company on its acquisition of an Australian supply chain and transportation services provider*
  • An international medical research company on its bid for an Australian laboratory services provider, in a competitive auction process for approximately A$400 million*
  • A global asset manager on its bid for a leading cancer treatment provider*
  • A Japanese trading house on its joint venture with a listed coal exploration company*
  • An Australian venture capital firm on its investments in four early-stage companies*
  • A number of high-growth companies on capital raisings, secondary sales, and convertible note issues*
