Clarence Cheong is an associate in the London office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the Data & Technology Transactions Practice and Privacy & Cyber Interdisciplinary Group.

Mr. Cheong advises clients across all market sectors on data protection, privacy, and security matters, particularly in relation to the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK data protection regime.

Mr. Cheong has experience advising on an array of technology and commercial issues including:

  • Fintech and payments

Mr. Cheong trained in the firm’s London and Hong Kong offices, gaining experience in structured finance and acquisition finance in addition to data and technology.

  • A social media platform on privacy and digital platform regulations, particularly in respect of anticipated EU and UK legislation on online user safety
  • A leading China-headquartered internet and technology company on global privacy compliance, with a focus on the GDPR in connection with a number of its key products, services, and platforms
  • A global insurance company with a focus on its compliance with cybersecurity and data privacy laws in China and Hong Kong
  • A global accountancy and consultancy firm on its privacy impact assessments
  • A major European telecommunications provider on EU privacy compliance, particularly in relation to data security and global data transfers
  • A Middle-East investment fund on contracting with IT and telecoms providers in relation to a mega construction project
  • Crownpeak Holdings, a digital marketing platform provider, on its acquisition of the Attraqt Group
  • Various clients on commercial contracts, data privacy, and intellectual property matters throughout the life cycle of M&A, private equity, and venture capital investments, from conducting due diligence to integration
