Jean Hyun has extensive experience in advocating and obtaining clearances for proposed mergers and acquisitions from the US Department of Justice Antitrust Division (DOJ) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), including defending clients in federal merger litigation.

Jean also assists clients navigating non-merger matters, including high-stakes agency conduct investigations and litigations. She also provides business-centric compliance counselling for both antitrust and anticorruption matters.

Jean advises a broad spectrum of companies across several highly regulated industries, including healthcare, technology, software, entertainment, and energy.

Before joining Latham, Jean was an associate at a leading global law firm in Washington, D.C., where she focused on antitrust matters.

Jean’s experience includes representing:

  • UnitedHealth Group in a DOJ enforcement action seeking to block UnitedHealth Group’s US$13 billion acquisition of Change Healthcare in district court. Jean served as core team member during final stages of DOJ’s merger investigation and litigation. The trial team achieved a complete win after a 12-day trial regarding both horizontal and vertical theories of harm, and successfully “litigated the fix”*
  • Six Flags Entertainment Corporation in its US$8 billion merger of equals with Cedar Fair*
  • Owens & Minor in its US$1.6 billion proposed acquisition of Rotech*
  • Resonetics, a global leader in advanced medical engineering, prototyping, product development, and micro-manufacturing, in its US$900 million acquisition of Memry; after full compliance with the Second Request, the FTC closed its investigation without seeking a remedy*
