Jason Zhao is a member of the firm’s Asia-based M&A team and focuses on private equity transactions and cross-border M&As. He primarily serves private equity funds and corporate clients on a wide range of corporate transactions including buyouts, PIPEs, US going-private, pre-IPO, carve-outs, and growth capital investments, with a particular focus on the Greater China market.

Prior to joining Latham, Mr. Zhao worked at another leading global law firm. He has practiced law in both China and the US.

  • Trustar Capital, formerly CITIC Capital Partners, as a major member of the buyer consortium on the US$4.76 billion going private of US-listed China Biologic Products Holdings Inc., a developer of plasma-based therapies
  • Aspex as a member of the buyer consortium on the going private of US-listed New Frontier Health Corporation, operator of the premium healthcare services provider United Family Healthcare
  • A buyer consortium led by Mr. Bing Zhang, the chief executive officer and chairman of Glory Star New Media Group Holdings Limited (GSMG), in the proposed going private of GSMG
  • Trustar Capital, formerly CITIC Capital Partners, and its affiliate on the acquisition of Salion Food Condiment Company Limited, a manufacturer of condiments and seasonings with its principal business in China
  • MBK Partners Fund V, L.P. on the US$950 million acquisition of ocean parks located across China from Hong Kong-listed hospitality group Haichang Ocean Park Holdings Ltd.
  • Haier Electronics Group on its proposed acquisition of a controlling stake in Ozner Water International Holding Limited, a China-based water and air purification company listed in Hong Kong
  • CPPIB  in its investment in Hutchison China MediTech Limited, an innovative biopharmaceutical company in China dual-listed on the London Stock Exchange’s AIM market and on the Nasdaq Global Select Market
  • Aspex Management as lead investor in the pipe investment in conjunction with a de-SPAC merger between an Asian sponsored SPAC and a North American-based biotech company
  • Primavera on its:
    • Series C financing of LoveBonito, Singapore's leading fashion online store for women's wear
    • Series B financing of Hex Trust, digital asset custody platform
    • Series B+ financing for a Chinese biomedical company
  • Kuaishou, a technology company that develops content sharing platforms, on its Series F financing
  • Tencent Music Entertainment Group on its minority investment and business cooperation with Wave XR Inc., a US-based virtual concert company that assists artists in live performance avatar creations
  • Jiangxi Copper on its acquisition of three copper mines in Albania*
  • Jiangxi Copper on its acquisition of a tungsten mine in Kazakhstan*
  • Lukoil on its sale of energy assets in Kazakhstan to Sinopec*
