James Richards is an associate in the Corporate Department of the London office of Latham & Watkins.

Mr. Richards primarily advises clients including financial sponsors, corporates, and management teams on private equity, venture capital and cross-border M&A transactions, and general corporate matters. 

Prior to joining Latham, Mr. Richards was an associate in the private equity department at an US law firm, based in London and has also spent time working in its offices in Stockholm and on secondment at a leading European buyout fund. 

Mr. Richards’ experience includes advising: 

  • Leonard Green & Partners on its investment in IRIS, a leading global provider of mission-critical software and services in accountancy, payroll, HR, and education
  • Bridgepoint Advisers on its acquisition of PEI Group, a UK-based provider of market insight, data, and journalism focused primarily on alternative asset class investment activity
  • Netrisk Group, a portfolio company of TA Associates, on its agreement with Bauer Media Group to combine their online comparison businesses across six Central and Eastern European countries
  • TA Associates on its investment in MRH Trowe, one of the largest owner-managed commercial lines insurance brokers in Germany, alongside its reinvesting founders and AnaCap Financial Partners
  • The senior secured lenders to the Lifeways Group, the UK’s largest supported living provider, in respect of its holistic balance sheet restructuring, recapitalization, and equity arrangements
  • N&P Group, an alternative energy company, and its founders in its minority investment from Mercuria* 
  • N&P Group on its acquisition of the Crayford mixed recycling facility from Viridor* 
  • Triton on the acquisition of ACRE, an access control business based in the US, and the subsequent add-on transactions of TDS (based in Ireland) and Feenics (based in Canada*
  • Triton on the sale of DSI Underground, a mining services business, to Sandvik* 
  • Neighborly, a KKR portfolio company, on the acquisition of Pimlico Plumbers*
  • Blue Water Energy on its acquisition of Severn Glocon and its subsequent add-on ValvTech* 
  • Consilium Marine & Safety, a portfolio company of Nordic Capital, on its acquisition of UniPOS, a maritime safety business*  
  • Nordic Biosite, a portfolio company of Adelis Equity, on its investment in a UK-based distributor of life science research and diagnostic products*
  • Arjun Infrastructure on its investment into Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners’ onshore wind portfolio in Spain*
