Josh Ryu is an associate in the New York office of Latham & Watkins and is a member of the firm’s Project Development & Finance Group. 

Mr. Ryu represents a variety of financial institutions, sponsors, and developers in connection with the development and financing of power, oil and gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG), renewable energy, and other infrastructure projects.

Mr. Ryu’s experience includes advising:

  • NextDecade in the ongoing development and financing of the Rio Grande LNG project, including on the US$18.5 billion equity and debt financing for its first three liquefaction trains of its multi-train Rio Grande LNG Facility, the largest greenfield energy equity and debt project financing in the U.S. history at the time of the closing in the United States 
  • Apex Clean Energy on the tax equity financing of its Downeast Wind project located in Washington County, Maine
  • Terra-Gen Power on the debt financing of the second phase of its Edwards Sanborn Project in Kern County, CA, the largest solar and battery energy storage project to reach the milestone at the time of the closing in the United States
  • The lenders on multiple financings of construction loans and tax equity bridge loans for solar projects in North Carolina owned and developed by a leading large-scale U.S. solar energy developer*
  • FLEX Intermediate HoldCo, a subsidiary of Freeport LNG with indirect ownership interests in Freeport LNG’s multi-train natural gas liquefaction and LNG export facility, on the US$1.5 billion private placement of senior secured notes*
  • A leading infrastructure fund in its acquisition of the largest privately owned energy-as-a-service solutions company in the United States*
  • A leading U.S. airline in a series of financings consisting of loans and grants from U.S. Treasury under the CARES Act and the Consolidated Appropriations Act*
  • The lenders on the construction, tax equity, and cash equity bridge loan financings for the development, construction, operation, and maintenance of a solar and battery storage project located in Guam*
  • Medallion Gathering & Processing, a subsidiary of GIP and the owner of one of the largest privately-held crude oil transportation systems in Texas, in connection with the refinancing of its term loan and revolving loan facilities*
  • Geysers Power Company, a subsidiary of Calpine Corporation, in connection with the US$1.1 billion climate bond certified financing of 13 geothermal power generating facilities at the Geysers in California (Named "North America Renewables Geothermal Deal of the Year" by IJGlobal 2020)*
  • The lead arrangers on the approximately US$570 million project financing of a world-scale hydrogen and nitrogen based ammonia plant in Texas City, Texas developed by Gulf Coast Ammonia LLC and having a production capacity of approximately 1.3 million tons per annum (Named "2019 North America Petrochemicals Deal of the Year” by Proximo)*
  • Heritage Power, a subsidiary of GenOn, in connection with the restructuring and financing of a 2,240MW portfolio of 16 peaker merchant power plants in New Jersey, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.*
