Charlie Bowden advises clients on all aspects of UK employment law, particularly in the context of global M&A activity.

Charlie guides the full spectrum of market participants — including corporates, banks, asset managers, private equity funds and their portfolio companies, hedge funds, and lenders — on the employment law aspects of their most transformative transactions and strategic employment matters.
In addition to transactional work, he advises clients on both contentious and non-contentious employment law matters, including:

  • Reductions in force
  • Restrictive covenants
  • Investigations and disciplinary matters
  • The employment law implications of the Senior Managers and Certification Regime (SMCR)

He also advises public and private companies across multiple sectors on the employment law aspects of complex carve-outs, divestments, outsourcings, financings, and restructurings.

Charlie maintains an active pro bono practice, supporting a range of charities with employment advisory assistance.

Charlie is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.

Before joining Latham, Charlie practiced for more than five years on the employment team of a Magic Circle law firm in London.

  • CVC Capital Partners on its acquisition with Haveli of Jagex, a leading online video gaming company
  • Patria Investments on the restructuring and strategic acquisition of abrdn’s European-headquartered funds of funds, secondary and co-investments private equity business
  • A global social media company on complex cross-border employment issues arising on various global bolt-on acquisitions
  • A private equity fund on acquiring a specialized hardware and software reseller and provider of managed services in the UK
  • Alliance Bernstein on the joint venture with Société Generale
  • Ares Management Corporation on the acquisition of GCP International, the international business A global bank on a highly sensitive investigation and disciplinary matter, in conjunction with regulatory colleagues
  • Various global banks and UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) solo-regulated firms on compliance with SMCR requirements, including in relation to fitness and propriety and the Conduct Rules
