Billy Kosmidis is an associate in the Los Angeles office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the firm’s Data & Technology Transactions Practice.

Billy advises clients on the full spectrum of intellectual property and technology transactions — from developing, licensing, and commercializing IP assets, to the IP and data privacy aspects of strategic transactions. He works with leading technology companies, private equity sponsors, emerging companies, and investors across a range of industries, including social media, artificial intelligence, robotics, digital health, entertainment, sports, and video gaming. Billy handles a range of IP, privacy, and technology matters, including:

  • Technology, software, content, and AI licensing
  • Strategic partnerships, alliances, and joint ventures
  • Product counseling on the development, launch, and monetization of digital products and services
  • Commercial agreements involving AI, including model license agreements, acceptable use policies, customer and end-user arrangements, and data sourcing
  • IP due diligence in M&A transactions, lender financings, and venture capital deals
  • State attorney general investigations, regulatory inquiry and demand letter responses, and enforcement actions
  • Data privacy and protection counseling

Billy maintains an active pro bono practice, including the representation of asylum applicants in removal proceedings before immigration courts.

  • Open AI in a variety of M&A transactions 
  • Mediawan, Europe’s leading independent studio and content distribution group, in its acquisition of The North Road Company
  • Caesars Entertainment, a leading entertainment, gaming, and hospitality company, in its US$17.6 billion sale to Fertitta Entertainment, a major American hospitality and entertainment conglomerate
  • A global camera technology and social media company in its acquisition of Illumix Inc., an augmented reality and spatial AI company in the entertainment, logistics, and robotics industry
  • Haveli Investments, a technology and gaming-focused private equity firm, in its acquisition of Budge Studios, a leading Montreal-based developer of interactive children’s apps
  • BigBear.ai, a technology company providing AI-powered decision intelligence solutions, in its approximately US$250 million acquisition of Ask Sage, a generative AI platform designed for the government, defense, and intelligence sectors
  • iHerb, a global online retailer specializing in vitamins, minerals, supplements, and health products, in its acquisition of Vitacost, an e-commerce retailer of health-conscious products 

Billy’s experience in litigation and regulatory matters include advising:

  • A global social media company in regulatory investigations before the Texas and Connecticut Attorney Generals on issues related to youth privacy and security
  • A leading entertainment, gaming, and hospitality company in connection with a California Privacy Protection Agency (CPPA) investigation related to disclosures of sensitive personal information
