Bay Area Partner Honored Among California’s 40 Under 40
The Daily Journal, California’s legal newspaper of record, selected Antitrust & Competition partner Alicia Jovais for its prestigious 40 Under 40 list, which annually celebrates California-based lawyers who are making a significant impact in their field.
Alicia’s profile highlights significant successes she’s secured for her clients, including Apple. In Pierre, for example, the consumer plaintiffs alleged that Apple (via Apple Cash) and other peer-to-peer payment app providers entered into an unlawful agreement to prevent peer-to-peer payment apps from implementing decentralized cryptocurrency technology on iOS. Alicia spearheaded Latham’s strategy and briefing from day one, doing a deep dive on decentralized finance and crafting the antitrust standing arguments that resulted in a complete first-round dismissal. The Latham team’s arguments were so persuasive, the plaintiffs ultimately dropped their claims voluntarily and Alicia continues to help shape this emerging area of law at the intersection of antitrust and digital payments.
