Latin Lawyer Recognizes Latham for Advising on Two Deals of the Year
Latin Lawyer, a leading source of news, analysis, and research for the Latin America regional legal community, has honored Latham for advising on two Deal of the Year winners at its 19th annual awards ceremony held in São Paulo.
Latham was recognized for advising on:
- Project Finance Infrastructure Deal of the Year — Panama gets US$1.4 billion financing for fourth canal bridge: A multi-disciplinary team led by members of the firm’s Latin America Practice advised Mizuho, as initial purchaser, and Banistmo, as local placement agent, on Panama Infrastructure Receivable Purchaser PLC’s offering of its US$1.424 billion Series 2024-2 Senior Secured Notes due 2032 to finance construction of a fourth bridge over the Panama Canal. The firm had advised the structuring agents and note purchasers in connection with the Series 2024-1 Notes that were issued as the initial tranche under the transaction. The project is one of Panama’s critical new infrastructure projects and is expected to considerably enhance ground transportation connections between Panama City and the rest of the country, streamlining the daily movement of approximately 70,000 vehicles and benefitting approximately 1.7 million residents.
- Project Finance Energy and Natural Resources Deal of the Year — Centinela mine expansion in Chile: Latham’s Latin America Practice represented Almar Water Solutions and Transelec, acting through two separate consortiums as project sponsors and operators, on the approximately US$1.5 billion brownfield and greenfield project. This landmark transaction is part of Minera Centinela’s recent US$4.4 billion mine site expansion and seeks to provide the existing and additional seawater required for mining operations once the expansion is completed.
Latham also received honors from IJGlobal and Proximo for our role advising on the region’s largest, most sophisticated, and precedent-setting business transactions across industries and practice categories. Latham’s Latin America Practice was ranked as the #1 law firm in Latin America M&A for Q1 2025 by Latinvex and Mergermarket.
