Latham Advises on Acquisition of a Majority Stake in Rangers Football Club
Latham & Watkins is advising a consortium of investors, led by Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises Global Football Group, on its acquisition of a majority stake in Rangers Football Club.
Formed in 1872, Rangers is one of the best-known and most successful clubs in Europe. The consortium will chart a new strategic vision for the club’s future, prioritizing on-pitch performance and long-term financial sustainability.
The Latham team was led by London corporate partners Doug Abernethy and Ed Barnett and sports partner Patrick Mitchell, with San Diego corporate partner Robert Frances, supported by London corporate associates Ryan Martin and Faith Edmunds. Advice on sports matters was also provided by associates Talal Abul and Claire Wallace; on tax matters by partner Simon Skinner, with associate Pastora Little-Morgan; on intellectual property, data protection, and commercial contracts by partner Christian McDermott, with associates Oscar Bjartell, Calum Docherty, and Dal Lim; and on employment matters by partner Kendall Burnett, with associate Charlie Bowden.
