IFLR Honors Latham for Innovation and Corporate Deal Work in Asia

March 25, 2021
Latham named “most innovative” US law firm and M&A Team of the Year in the Asia-Pacific region; also recognized for advising on Equity Deal of the Year.

The international legal publication IFLR has selected Latham across several categories at the 2021 Asia-Pacific Awards, including as the “most innovative” US law firm and as M&A Team of the Year. IFLR also recognized the firm for advising on the Equity Deal of the Year. The annual award program honors individual lawyers, firms, and transactions that have broken new ground in the Asia-Pacific market based on the research of an internal judging panel comprising IFLR journalists and editors.

The recognitions reflect Latham’s recent work on a number of pioneering cross-border transactions throughout the region, spanning various deal categories. In particular, IFLR highlighted the firm’s work on several notable M&A deals in 2020, including the US$1.1 billion buyer consortium’s privatization of China-based Bitauto and Tencent’s subsequent purchase offer for Yixin Group, and the merger of SingLife and Aviva Singapore. Based on this work, Latham was named M&A Team of the Year. Both transactions were also shortlisted in the M&A Deal of the Year category.

In addition, IFLR recognized Latham for advising on AREIT’s PHP13.6 billion initial public offering in the Equity Deal of the Year category. Latham represented BPI Capital Corporation and UBS AG as joint bookrunners in connection with the transaction — marking the first-ever IPO by a real estate investment trust (REIT) in the Philippines. The landmark offering was also recently honored as a Deal of the Year by Asian Legal Business
