December 10, 2020
The Hollywood Reporter honored Sy Damle and Alli Stillman for leadership in their field.

Latham partners and copyright litigators Sy Damle and Alli Stillman have been named 2020 Power Lawyers by The Hollywood Reporter in the entertainment industry publication’s first annual list of New York’s top entertainment lawyers. The list spotlights 20 lawyers “who’ve been tasked with creating new deals in an unsteady landscape… and fighting cutting-edge courtroom battles via Zoom.

Damle was recognized for helping to implement the Music Modernization Act, which “updated licensing protocols for the digital age.” Damle also helped in drafting a provision in the CARES Act that “provided relief for those struggling to comply with copyright obligations amid the pandemic.”

Stillman was honored for a number of matters related to the Music Modernization Act, including defending streaming giant Spotify in a suit regarding the constitutionality of the law, and helping music services “prepare to acquire blanket licenses under [the Act],” which become available in the coming year.

Both partners are members of the firm’s Entertainment, Sports, and Industry Group and Connectivity, Privacy & Information Practice, which joins together firm lawyers who focus on innovative litigation and regulatory disputes related to the communications industry, data privacy and security, and digital copyright. The practice group further broadens the firm’s bench of sophisticated counsel representing participants across all major media, software, and technology sectors.
