Latham Expands Securities Litigation & Professional Liability Practice with Addition of Counsel in Chicago

Jack Barber brings substantial accounting and professional services experience.

Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce that John J. (Jack) Barber has joined the firm in Chicago as counsel in the Litigation & Trial Department and as a member of the Securities Litigation & Professional Liability Practice. He is a registered Certified Public Accountant in Illinois, and brings substantial experience managing litigation and government regulatory matters, conducting internal investigations, and advising on transactional and employment-related diligence matters.

“Jack has nearly two decades of experience both as an outside lawyer advising professional services and corporate clients, and within a leading accounting firm,” said Cathy Birkeland, Office Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins in Chicago. “He is an excellent addition to our team whose background and first-hand experience will be valuable to our clients here in Chicago and around the globe.”

Barber joins Latham from Crowe LLP, where he served as Assistant General Counsel. Prior to Crowe, Barber was a partner at a boutique law firm in Chicago, where he focused on professional liability matters, tax litigation with a focus on state and local government issues, and other commercial litigation. He received his JD from the University of Notre Dame Law School and received his BBA from the University of Notre Dame as well.
