Latham & Watkins Adds Experienced Litigator in Spain

September 2, 2019
Arrival of Óscar Franco further strengthens the firm’s Spanish and European litigation practice.

Latham & Watkins is pleased to announce that Óscar Franco has joined the Madrid office as a partner in the Litigation & Trial Department. Franco’s practice focuses on advising companies, financial institutions, and private equity firms on a variety of complex litigation, arbitration, and restructuring and insolvency matters.

“Offering a first-class disputes practice in Madrid is a key part of our growth plan in Spain,” said Ignacio Gómez-Sancha, Office Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins in Madrid. “Óscar’s wide-ranging practice and deep relationships with major Spanish and European clients knit well with our global strategy, and we are excited to welcome him to our expanding team.”

Highly regarded in his field, Franco has particular expertise advising clients in relation to real estate disputes and non-performing loan litigation, in addition to his focus on civil litigation.

“Oscar is an experienced practitioner with a top-notch reputation in Spain,” added Martin Davies, Global Vice Chair of Latham’s Litigation & Trial Department. “He is a tough litigator, with strong business instincts and an excellent track record counselling clients on a variety of contentious matters. His arrival represents another major development for our Spanish and European litigation capability, and he will play a key role in helping further grow our practice.”

“I am thrilled to be joining Latham & Watkins at such an exciting time,” said Franco. “Latham is one of the elite firms in Spain, and I look forward to helping achieve the firm’s ambitious growth plans.”

Franco joins Latham & Watkins from DLA Piper. He received his law degree from Universidad La Laguna in 2001 before completing his LLM in Business Law at Instituto de Empresa. He is the latest high-profile partner to join the firm’s Madrid office, following the arrival of real estate partner Rafael Molina, antitrust and competition partner José María Jiménez Laiglesia, employment partner Naiara Rodriguez-Escudero, and corporate counsel Luis Manuel Lozano.
