Owain Davies has over 18 years of experience advising project owners, sponsors, and lenders (including commercial banks, export credit agencies, multilaterals, and development banks) on the development and financing of energy, natural resources, and infrastructure projects, including some of the largest and most complex project development and financing transactions in the Asia-Pacific region.

Mr. Davies has extensive experience advising on the structuring, drafting, and negotiation of the key project contracts, particularly in the context of project financing arrangements. He has particular expertise regarding offtake arrangements (including power purchase agreements and long-term product sales contracts), tolling agreements, engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts, operation and maintenance (O&M) agreements, and contracts relating to fuel and feedstock supply and transportation.

 

Mr. Davies' experience includes advising:

  • Ichthys LNG Project, Australia — the lenders in the US$20 billion financing for the Ichthys LNG project in Australia, the largest project financing ever taken to market, globally
  • Coal-to-Methanol Project, Indonesia — Air Products, as project owner, on the development of a US$2 billion coal-to-methanol production facility in East Kalimantan, Indonesia, the first project of this kind in the region
  • Solar Power Project, Bangladesh — the project developer on the proposed construction of a large-scale solar power facility in Bangladesh
  • Hydroelectric Power Projects, Indonesia — Korea Midland Power, as project sponsor, on the development and financing of 55MW - 114MW hydroelectric power projects in Sumatra, Indonesia
  • Geothermal Power Projects, Indonesia — the lenders, including the Asian Development Bank, on the development and financing of 85MW – 220MW geothermal power projects in Sumatra, Indonesia
  • Mong Duong II Power Project, Vietnam — the lenders in the financing and development of the 1,200MW Mong Duong II coal-fired power project, the first coal-fired Build-Operate-Transfer project in Vietnam, and the largest independent power project ever undertaken in the country
  • Uch II Power Project, Pakistan — International Power and the project company, as sponsor/borrower, in the US$540 million Uch-II 375MW gas-fired independent power project in Pakistan
  • Thermal Power Projects, Philippines and Indonesia — project owners and sponsors on the development and financing of numerous power projects in the Philippines and Indonesia
  • Oil Refinery and Petrochemical Projects, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and Malaysia — the project developers on the development and financing of oil refinery and petrochemical plants in Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and Malaysia
