Kathleen Walsh is a partner in the New York office of Latham & Watkins. Ms. Walsh is the Global Chair of the firm's Associates Committee, former Vice Chair of the firm's Global Corporate Department, and former Global Co-Chair of the firm’s Investment Funds Practice.
Ms. Walsh represents private investment fund sponsors and principals in connection with the organization of both US and global private equity funds, including buyout funds; mezzanine funds; distressed debt funds; venture funds; infrastructure, power, and energy funds; and fund of funds, as well as the secondary purchase of private equity portfolios and the spin out of private equity managers from financial institution private equity funds.
Ms. Walsh has also advised on the acquisition of investment managers and regularly advises private equity funds in connection with portfolio investments and realizations. As part of her practice, Ms. Walsh advises sponsors of private investment funds on registration and compliance matters under the Investment Advisers Act of 1940 and the Investment Company Act of 1940.
Ms. Walsh is recognized as a leading lawyer in private equity fund formation by Chambers USA, Chambers Global, and The Legal 500 US. Ms. Walsh was also named Best in Investment Funds based on peer review and received industry recognition by Euromoney Legal Media Group for Women in Business Law Awards in 2014. In 2019, Fordham Law Women presented Ms. Walsh with the First Annual Betty Santangelo Award.
