Karen Silverman is a partner in the San Francisco office of Latham & Watkins and is a member of the Global Antitrust & Competition Practice. She is currently Co-Chair of the firm's Information Technology - Systems & Solutions Industry Group and the former Office Managing Partner of the San Francisco office.

Ms. Silverman advises a variety of clients, from young to enterprise-sized, on their most strategic and complex transactions and internal competition issues. Her work focuses on obtaining merger control clearances in the US and globally, as well as cartel defense and commercial pricing and distribution issues. Ms. Silverman works closely with both corporate and litigation partners, displaying her extensive experience in the high technology, biotechnology, consumer products, entertainment, media, health care, and retail industries.

Before joining Latham, Ms. Silverman worked at the US Department of Justice Antitrust Division as Special Assistant to the Assistant Attorney General and in the Foreign Commerce Section. In 1993, she returned to private practice, and to the Bay Area in 1996.

The San Francisco Business Times inducted Ms. Silverman into its Forever Influential Honor Roll of the most influential businesswomen in the Bay Area. She was also named among the Top 100 Lawyers in California by the Daily Journal, with the newspaper calling her "a corporate antitrust extraordinaire" who has advised on "a staggering number of huge deals." Additionally, she has been recognized as one of California's Top Women Lawyers by the Daily Journal (2008-2016), as a leading California Antitrust attorney by Chambers USA (2006-2015), and also as one of California's Leading Competition Practitioners by Who's Who Legal: California (2007-2015).

Ms. Silverman is a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America. She is a past Chair of the monopoly practices (Section 2) Committee of the ABA Antitrust Section and has served on the Executive Committee of the California State Bar Antitrust Section. Ms. Silverman is active in a variety of professional and other trade associations, speaks and writes on a range of antitrust and law firm management topics, and sits on several nonprofit boards dedicated to bringing resources to women and girls, low-income, and other vulnerable populations and defeating modern-day slavery.
