Karen E. Silverman

Retired Partner

Karen Silverman retired from the partnership in March 2020. She has been a leading attorney advising on emerging legal and governance issues arising from the business applications of AI and related technologies, as well as the antitrust regulatory aspects of strategic M&A transactions. She has drawn on more than 25 years of practice and management experience to help clients navigate complex transactions, global regulatory environments, antitrust litigation, and government enforcement matters.

Ms. Silverman advised technology, consumer products, media and entertainment, healthcare, and retail clients. She has combined creative, strategic, and forward-looking insights to serve clients’ business objectives.

With a sophisticated understanding of deal-related antitrust issues and litigation, Ms. Silverman effectively addressed new legal trends for clients. She led Latham’s partnership with the World Economic Forum and its work on a Board Toolkit for Artificial Intelligence, and related thought leadership projects. She has received a certificate in Artificial Intelligence: Implications for Business Strategy from MIT Sloan/MIT CSAIL.

Leadership

Ms. Silverman has a long history of management experience, including as former Office Managing Partner of the San Francisco office, former Co-Chair of the firm’s Information Technology - Systems & Solutions Industry Group, and in other roles.

She was a member of IEEE, a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, a past chair of the monopoly practices (Section 2) Committee of the ABA Antitrust Section, and has served on the Executive Committee of the California State Bar Antitrust Section.
