Karen Silverman is a leading advisor on the antitrust regulatory aspects of strategic M&A transactions and emerging issues related to the business applications of artificial intelligence and other frontier technologies. She draws on more than 25 years of practice and management experience to help clients navigate complex transactions, global regulatory environments, antitrust litigation, and government enforcement matters.
Ms. Silverman advises technology, consumer products, media and entertainment, healthcare, and retail clients. She combines creative, strategic, and forward-looking insights to serve clients’ business objectives.
With a sophisticated understanding of deal-related antitrust issues and litigation, Ms. Silverman is well-positioned to address new legal trends for clients. She is leading Latham’s partnership with the World Economic Forum’s Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (WEF C4IR), its work on a Board Toolkit for Artificial Intelligence, and related thought leadership projects. She has received a certificate in Artificial Intelligence: Implications for Business Strategy from MIT Sloan/MIT CSAIL.
Ms. Silverman has a long history of management experience, including as former Office Managing Partner of the San Francisco office, former Co-Chair of the firm’s Information Technology - Systems & Solutions Industry Group, and in other roles.
She is a member of IEEE, a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, a past chair of the monopoly practices (Section 2) Committee of the ABA Antitrust Section, and she has served on the Executive Committee of the California State Bar Antitrust Section. She frequently speaks and writes on a wide range of topics.
Ms. Silverman currently serves on the boards and strategic planning committees of Legal Momentum, Not For Sale, and SparkSF, and on the Executive Leadership Team for the American Heart Association’s SF Go Red for Women campaign. She is active with the Bay Area Council.
