Corporate, litigation and environmental partners recognized for high-profile work.

Indicative of the firm’s diverse skills across practice areas, four Latham & Watkins lawyers were named among the “Top 100 Lawyers in California” for 2014 by the Daily Journal. According to the legal newspaper, the annual list honors “lawyers who have an impact – on an industry or on the larger society… They get results by the sheer force of their intellect and skill and sometimes by sheer force.”  Latham’s 2014 honorees include: Litigation partner Patrick Gibbs; Corporate partners Cary Hyden and Alan Mendelson; and partner Robert Wyman, who chairs the firm’s Environment, Land & Resources Department.

Gibbs was recognized for his case work as a member of the firm’s Securities Litigation and Professional Liability practice, particularly the successful defense in federal court of Manouch Moshayedi, the former chairman and CEO of STec Inc., in one of the largest insider trading actions brought by the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Hyden was cited for M&A and capital markets work, highlighted by the high-profile attempt at a hostile takeover of his longtime client Allergan, Inc. by a competing pharmaceutical company. Mendelson was selected for leading emerging company clients and their financial advisers through a range of initial public offerings, strategic alliances and other key corporate milestones, particularly a number involving Life Sciences companies. Wyman was honored for his leadership in policy developments and notable litigation involving cutting-edge environmental issues such as climate change, carbon markets and air quality.
