Latham & Watkins Named Top Latin America M&A Legal Advisor in 2021

Firm recognized for advising on the highest number of M&A deals in the Latin America region among international firms.

Latham was recognized as the top international legal advisor for Latin America M&A deals in 2021. According to Latinvex, Latham lead the way, “advising on the highest number of Latin America deals among international firms.” The firm’s market-leading Latin America Practice achieved this result through cross-border and cross-practice partnerships representing a wave of major M&A transactions in a year where there was a strong M&A recovery in the region. Latham was recognized for deals, including:

  • The Carlyle Group — one of the world’s largest global investment firms — in connection with the acquisition of oil and gas exploration and production company Occidental’s Onshore Portfolio in Colombia
  • Webhelp Group in connection with the acquisition of OneLink — a digitally-enabled CX, BPO, and technology services company supporting tier one brands throughout the US, Europe, and Latin America — from One Equity Partners
  • Ecopetrol and KNOC — the national oil companies of Colombia and South Korea respectively — in connection with the sale of Offshore International Group — an oil and gas company with upstream operations in Peru — to De Jong Capital
  • Telefónica in connection with the sale of Telefónica’s operations in Costa Rica — one of Costa Rica’s largest mobile service providers — to Liberty Latin America Ltd
  • Telefónica in connection with the sale to KKR of a majority stake in its Colombian fiber optic network — the largest in Colombia — and its conversion to an open network under KKR’s control
  • Global Infrastructure Partners – a leading global, independent infrastructure fund manager – in connection with the acquisition of a 49% stake in AES Andes’ renewable energy portfolio in Chile and related financing arrangements

In 2021, Latham handled more than US$11.5 billion in announced M&A transactions in the Latin America region, representing principal entities or financial advisors in more than 27 public and private deals.
