Crain’s Chicago Business has honored Chicago partners Alexa Berlin, Jonathan Solomon, and Eric Swibel as 2021 Notable Rising Stars In Law in recognition of their professional accomplishments, leadership at the firm, and dedication to civic and community service, diversity and inclusion, and mentoring.

Alexa Berlin, a member of Latham’s Capital Markets and Public Company Representation Practices, advises clients on capital markets transactions, corporate governance matters, and securities law issues. Berlin’s portfolio includes advising innovative companies on high-profile IPOs and other offerings such as advising Airbnb in its US$3.4 billion IPO, the largest US IPO in 2020, and advising the underwriters in Beyond Meat’s highly successful IPO in 2019. Berlin has served on multiple committees at Latham, including the Women Enriching Business (WEB) Committee, where she currently serves, as well as other committees aimed at supporting and training junior lawyers. Outside of her practice, Berlin is involved in civic engagement efforts through her work with Election Protection’s national voter hotline, which she staffed throughout the 2020 US Presidential Election.

Jonathan Solomon, Chair of Chicago’s Corporate Department and Global Vice Chair of the Retail & Consumer Products Industry Group, advises clients on a range of complex mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic investments, and corporate governance issues. Recently, Solomon advised semiconductor company AMD in its groundbreaking US$35 billion pending acquisition of Xilinx, the second-largest M&A deal announced in the US in 2020; MarketWise in its US$3 billion de-SPAC business combination; BDT Capital in its US$3.4 billion investment in Acrisure; and Hyatt in its US$2.7 billion pending acquisition of Apple Leisure Group. He also regularly advises family offices and their portfolio companies, including representing certain Pritzker Family Business Interests on a myriad of transactions. In addition to his leadership roles within the firm, Solomon supports a number of philanthropic organizations in Chicago including PAWS and Chabad Lincoln Park.

Eric Swibel, Co-Chair of Chicago’s Litigation & Trial Department, represents global clients in high-stakes litigation in federal and state courts, government and internal investigations, and arbitrations. Swibel is an admirable trial lawyer whose recent successes include leading the team representing Camping World Holdings and several company officers and directors in multiple securities class actions and derivative suits in five different federal and state courts. During the pandemic, Swibel tried an impressive five JAMS commercial arbitrations while serving as an invaluable leader as he helped guide his 60-member department through the rapid remote work shift. Outside of his practice, Swibel is a member of Latham’s Chicago Task Force on Racial Justice & Equality and is an active member in Chicago’s Honeycomb project for family volunteering.
