Truman Mak is an associate in the Hong Kong office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the Litigation & Trial Department.

Mr. Mak represents clients in general commercial litigation and arbitration, and contentious financial regulatory matters, with experience in matters involving multijurisdictional disputes, economic tort, fraud, shareholder and fund investor disputes, trusts financial regulatory proceedings, administrative law and constitutional law. 

He has experience working with clients in various sectors, including financial services, investment funds, shipping, aviation, cryptocurrency platform, consumer products, telecommunications, and construction, as well as high-net-worth individuals. 

Mr. Mak is a Solicitor Advocate who has been granted higher rights of audience to appear in all levels of civil courts in Hong Kong.

  • Hong Kong Airlines Limited in defending a claim by a Hong Kong based construction company for retention money allegedly held under a construction contract, as well as related interlocutory injunction proceedings
  • Hong Kong Airlines Limited in the restructuring of its US$6.2 billion debts and liabilities, including its guarantee of the US$683 million perpetual securities issued by Blue Skyview, as well as related disputes
  • A NY listed Chinese real estate developer in defending a claim by an investment fund to repurchase the real estate developer’s own notes that are in default
  • A major Hong Kong listed bank and syndicated loan agent in the enforcement of certain loans and securities involving multiple jurisdictions totaling nearly HK$5 billion
  • A Cayman investment fund in defending HKIAC arbitration proceedings involving investment disputes, as well as related injunction and Court proceedings 
  • High profile individuals in the shipping industry in defending Mareva Injunction of over US$180 million and associated civil litigation in Hong Kong involving allegations of fraud and conspiracy across multiple jurisdiction

  • A distressed debt fund in connection with an urgent enforcement of securities for a US$100 million loan against a listed Chinese developer who triggered several events of default and cross defaults*
