Tara Tavernia is an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the firm’s Antitrust & Competition Practice.

Ms. Tavernia is an experienced antitrust advisor. She helps clients obtain regulatory approval of mergers and acquisitions from the US Department of Justice (DOJ), US Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and competition authorities around the world. She also advises clients on civil litigation, including serving on a trial team that successfully defended against a high-profile merger challenge in federal court, as well as on government conduct investigations and antitrust compliance matters.

Ms. Tavernia is a member of the American Bar Association’s Antitrust Section, where she has served as a member of the editorial board of Antitrust Magazine Online (formerly, The Antitrust Source) since 2019.

Ms. Tavernia's experience includes representing:

  • T-Mobile US and Deutsche Telekom in T-Mobile US’ merger with Sprint Corporation for a total combined enterprise value of US$146 billion*
  • 21st Century Fox on the US antitrust aspects of its US$71 billion sale of its film and television studios and certain cable networks to The Walt Disney Company*
  • SUPERVALU in multiple transactions, including in its acquisition by United Natural Foods for approximately US$2.9 billion, its US$375 million acquisition of Unified Grocers, and its US$193 million acquisition of Associated Grocers of Florida*
  • Abbott Laboratories in its US$25 billion acquisition of St. Jude Medical*
  • Medtronic in its US$49.9 billion acquisition of Covidien*
