Syed Naman Ali is an associate in the London office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the firm’s Litigation & Trial Department. 

He focuses on international arbitration, public international law, complex commercial litigation, and various aspects of international trade and export controls. 

Syed maintains an active pro bono practice, representing non-government organizations on issues of UK, EU, and international law.

He serves on the Youth Advisory Board at Chance to Shine, a national cricket charity dedicated to ensuring equal access for all participants, particularly those from underserved communities.

Syed has authored articles on arbitration for the renowned New Law Journal.

Syed's experience includes representing:

  • A State body on the international compatibility of its legislation
  • A private equity fund in a SIAC arbitration concerning an investment in the telecommunications sector in South-East Asia
  • A State-owned gas and petroleum company in ICC arbitration and ancillary court proceedings in relation to disputes over an offshore oil concession in South America
  • Hong Kong Airlines Limited on its US$6.2 billion restructuring (the first restructuring to be implemented by way of a parallel and overlapping Hong Kong Scheme of Arrangement and an English Restructuring Plan)
  • Global clients on a range of EU and UK trade sanctions and export controls
