Stephen Lessard oversees the firm’s pro bono efforts supporting tax-exempt organizations.
Under his guidance, Latham advises and partners with a range of nonprofits, charities, and NGOs, to address a wide array of legal issues, including formation, structuring, and compliance. The firm offers advice in complex matters with potentially profound impacts on an organization’s constituency.
His notable accomplishments include advising a multi-practice team of Latham lawyers who established and structured a fund to help victims of a mass shooting in Highland Park, Illinois. The client noted that Latham’s ability to create a legal structure to quickly and transparently distribute the funds maximized their impact, tangibly benefitting victims, their families, and the community.
Stephen serves on the boards of the New York County Lawyers Association (NYCLA) and the Veteran Advocacy Project and is a Co-Chair of the NYCLA Justice Center. He is also a member of the New York State Bar Association House of Delegates and Veteran Law Committee.
Stephen joined Latham’s New York office from another international law firm in 2021 and previously served for 20 years in the US Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer.
