Shayne is an experienced trial attorney who handles contested proceedings through verdict and appeal, approaching cases from day one with a focus on positioning clients for a favorable outcome, whether in or out of the courtroom.

Shayne also counsels transactional clients, particularly in the oil and gas sector, on risk, regulatory issues, and potential litigation matters. He maintains an active pro bono practice, including serving as a supervising attorney on matters for human rights law clinics at the University of Texas School of Law and UC Berkeley School of Law.

Before joining Latham, Shayne worked at two other global law firms and clerked for Judge Thelton E. Henderson of the US District Court for the Northern District of California.

  • BlockFi in its chapter 11 cases in the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey*
  • A federal court-appointed monitor in connection with criminal probation of a large utility company*
  • America’s largest generator of electricity from natural gas and geothermal resources in a wide range of pre-litigation advisement matters, including contract and regulatory disputes*
  • Coherus BioSciences in a lawsuit alleging trade secret misappropriation related to a pharmaceutical biosimilar; favorably settling the case on the eve of trial*
  • Comcast in numerous litigation matters, including patent and trade secret disputes*
  • Facebook/Meta in numerous litigation matters, including employment, patent, and trade secret disputes*
  • Frontier Communications in the prearranged restructuring of more than US$18.5 billion in outstanding funded debt, which was confirmed in approximately four months in a contested hearing*
  • Google and an affiliate in a patent and trade secret lawsuit regarding the alleged misappropriation of proprietary information involving high-altitude balloons*
  • A large grocery retailer in an ERISA putative class action regarding retirement benefits*
  • Hulu in numerous litigation matters, including patent disputes*
  • Murray Energy Holdings, the largest privately owned coal company in the United States, and certain of its subsidiaries in their chapter 11 cases in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Ohio*
  • A real estate investment trust (REIT) client regarding an alleged RICO conspiracy*
