Shakirah Akhtar is an associate in the London office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the firm’s Corporate Department.

Shakirah advises clients on a variety of transactions, including cross-border mergers and acquisitions, private equity, joint ventures, and general corporate matters across a range of sectors.

Shakirah maintains an active pro bono practice, representing clients through the Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit, the University House Legal Advice Centre. and the Royal Courts of Justice Advice Bureau. She also served on the firm’s Multicultural Attainment and Promotion Committee prior to qualification and remains an active member of the firm’s various affinity groups, as well as the London Academy of Excellence Community Partnership.

Shakirah’s experience includes advising:

  • Robinhood on acquiring Bitstamp, a global cryptocurrency exchange
  • TotalEnergies SE on its sale of TotalEnergies EP (Brunei) B.V. to Hibiscus Petroleum Berhad, a Malaysia-based public oil and gas exploration and production company
  • General Atlantic on their investment into KAYALI, a fragrance business founded by Mona and Huda Kattan in 2018 under the parent company Huda Beauty
