Sean Gloth is an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of Latham & Watkins. He represents clients in complex intellectual property disputes, including patent and trade secret matters.

Sean draws from his background in computer engineering to litigate intellectual property disputes and provide strategic counseling across a wide range of technical fields, including artificial intelligence, cryptocurrency, semiconductors, consumer electronics, digital signal processing applications, and telecommunications to name a few.

Sean represents clients at all stages of litigation, from pre-suit investigation through trial and appeal. Sean has experience arguing before the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the International Trade Commission, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and various district courts across the country. Sean is a member of Latham’s Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Group, including the ITC trial group.

  • Certain NAND Memory Devices and Electronic Devices Containing the Same (ITC) – Achieved early, successful resolution for Mimir in two ITC investigations against Micron Technology Inc. regarding infringement of Mimir’s DRAM and NAND patents.
  • Integrated Circuits, Chipsets, and Electronic Devices, and Products Containing the Same (ITC) – Achieved successful resolution for MediaTek post-trial against NXP Semiconductors N.V. regarding infringement of MediaTek’s semiconductor patents.* 
  • Silicon Photovoltaic Cells and Modules with Nanostructures, and Prods. Containing the Same (ITC) – Secured complete defensive victory for Hanwha Solutions Corp. in a patent infringement case brought by Advanced Silicon Group Technologies.*
  • Certain Vaporizer Cartridges and Components Thereof (ITC) – Secured a general exclusion order in an ITC investigation brought against 51 respondents relating to vaporizer cartridge design patents.*
  • Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC v. Carucel Investments (PTAB) – Secured invalidation of all challenged claims of seven patents asserted by Carucel against Mercedes, forcing dismissal of accompanying district court suit.*
  • The Hillman Group, Inc. v. KeyMe, LLC (E.D. Tex.) – Defended KeyMe against patent infringement suit brought by The Hillman Group, securing a complete defensive victory in the Eastern District of Texas.*
  • Defended investment platform in patent litigation regarding GUI technology (D. Del), achieving early, favorable resolution.
  • Defended semiconductor equipment manufacturer in patent litigation regarding computer memory technology (D. Del), securing a favorable settlement.
