Robertson Dorsett is an associate in Latham & Watkins’ Capital Markets practice, advising issuers, buy side, and sell side institutions on equity derivatives and other equity linked products. His legal practice is informed by nearly a decade of senior operating and front office experience across equity and credit markets.
Before becoming a lawyer, Robertson served as Chief Financial Officer for Japan and Korea operations at The Kraft Heinz Company, where he oversaw regional financial operations, strategic planning, and third-party agreements. Earlier in his career, he worked in equity derivatives and convertible bond sales at Goldman Sachs in Tokyo and at Credit Suisse in Hong Kong, advising institutional clients on convertible bonds, equity derivatives, and credit products.
Prior to joining Latham, Robertson practiced in the Financial Derivatives group at another major international law firm, where he represented buy side clients and their portfolio companies in fixed income and commodity derivatives transactions. His experience includes currency and interest rate hedging under secured loan facilities, deal contingent hedging, repurchase facilities, bank credit risk transfers, credit default swaps, and the negotiation of ISDA, SIFMA, and other market standard trading documentation.
Robertson’s work on credit default swaps has been published in the American Bar Association’s peer reviewed journal, The Business Lawyer. His 2023 article, "Contracting for Default," analyses CDS auction mechanics and examines engineered defaults and other divergences between cash and derivative credit markets.
In addition to his transactional practice, Robertson maintains an active pro bono litigation practice. A New York State Pro Bono Scholar, he contributed during law school to securing a pardon of innocence from the State of North Carolina for an individual wrongfully convicted of armed robbery. In private practice, he has successfully represented individuals in New York State Central Registry administrative proceedings and in a Social Security benefits appeal before the Southern District of New York.
