    Profile

    Richard Cantoral is an associate in the New York office of Latham & Watkins.

    Prior to joining the firm full-time, Richard was a summer associate in the New York office.

    Richard earned his JD from the University of Michigan Law School, where he served as the President of the Law School Student Senate and Treasurer of the Latinx Law Students Association. Richard was also an advanced clinician in the Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic and Community Enterprise Clinic, where he served the Metro-Detroit community on a variety of matters ranging from tax controversies to small business formation.

    Prior to law school, Richard worked at Goldman Sachs in New York, where he was an associate in the Asset Management Compliance and Financial Crime Compliance groups. His work focused on fixed income, anti-bribery, banking, and know-your-customer regulations.

    Experience

    Richard’s experience includes advising:

    • FAT Brands Inc., Twin Hospitality Group Inc., and 184 debtor subsidiaries (collectively, FAT Brands), a leading global franchising company and owner of 18 restaurant brands, including Johnny Rockets, Fazoli’s, and Twin Peaks, in connection with the confirmation of their chapter 11 liquidating plan following an expedited 363 sale process that resulted in four separate asset sales of substantially all of the debtors’ assets, eliminating close to US$1 billion in debt across five securitization silos
    • Wolfspeed, Inc., a leading technology company, in conjunction with its prepackaged chapter 11 restructuring process involving more than US$7 billion in total debt obligations
    • Exela Technologies, a global business process automation leader, in connection with its chapter 11 restructuring
    • Vanderbilt Minerals, LLC, a mining company, in its chapter 11 proceedings in the Northern District of New York and court-approved US$64 million asset sale to an industrial minerals platform
    • GPD Companies, Inc. (dba Nexeo Plastics), a global holding company focused on value-added plastics distribution, in connection with a liability management transaction
