Nara Yoo is an associate in the London office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the Data & Technology Transactions Practice.

Mr. Yoo advises clients from a broad range of sectors, including private equity, social media, entertainment, sports, and media, consumer products, financial, information technology, telecoms, and healthcare and life sciences in connection with:

  • Global data privacy matters
  • Commercial contracts
  • Diligence of private equity and venture capital transactions
  • Intellectual property

Mr. Yoo trained in the firm’s London office, gaining a broad range of experience in corporate M&A, equity capital markets, structured finance and cross-border OTC derivative transactions, white collar defense, and complex commercial litigation.

Prior to joining Latham, Mr. Yoo was also a member of Samsung legal team in Korea for more than four years, where he advised on legal issues in advancing the new business model following Samsung SDS's transition from IT outsourcing to IT solution & service, including advising on GDPR compliance for cross-border products and building a prototype contract review automation tool.

Mr. Yoo also served as a military officer in Korea, for which he was awarded several commendations for meritorious service. His experience included assisting the Korean Organising Committee in its contract negotiations for the 2015 Korea Military World Games.

Mr. Yoo’s experience includes advising:

  • A publicly listed China-headquartered technology and internet group on global data privacy compliance for cross-border products, including products across the social media, cloud, and gaming space. This project has included a specific focus on data privacy compliance relating to the GDPR as well as across Asia
  • A significant social media company in matters before the Irish Data Protection Commission on issues related to privacy and security
  • A provider of crowdsourced data platform on the territorial scope of GDPR and in various data protection regulatory inquiries
  • A provider of protective intelligence platform on territorial scope of GDPR, steps required for GDPR compliance and options to mitigate risks
  • A leading European specialist pharmaceutical company in the sale of its entire issued share capital
