Miriam “Mia” Cabello is an associate in the Bay Area offices of Latham & Watkins and a member of the Litigation & Trial Department and Intellectual Property Litigation Practice.
Mia advises and represents clients in complex disputes nationwide, with an emphasis on technology-related litigation and trial. She has experience with trade secret, patent, and copyright litigation as well as complex commercial matters.
Mia is adept at navigating the stages of litigation, from initial proceedings to trial, and her expertise includes fact and expert discovery, motion practice, witness preparation, and pretrial and trial team management and strategy. Beyond case preparation and development, Mia has successfully argued motions and examined witnesses in both state and federal court.
Mia graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. During law school, Mia advised tech startups on intellectual property protection and strategy through the Detkin Intellectual Property and Technology Legal Clinic. She also worked as a law clerk at the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas and at a major technology company.
Mia maintains an active and dedicated pro bono practice, which includes representing service members in partnership with National Veterans Legal Services Program and survivors of domestic violence in partnership with the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County.
She currently serves on the firm's Recruiting Committee and is a global leader of the firm's Hispanic and Latin American Lawyers Group.
In 2024, Mia was an assistant district attorney for the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, during which she first-chaired and second-chaired criminal jury trials.
