Matthew O’Connor is an associate in the London office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the firm’s Corporate Department, specializing in private equity and mergers and acquisitions.

Mr. O’Connor advises private equity funds and other financial sponsors on a wide range of corporate transactions, including public and private M&A, carve-outs, co-investments, and consortium deals. He also advises private equity portfolio companies on general corporate matters.

Prior to joining Latham, Mr. O’Connor worked in the corporate department of a major international law firm, where he completed a secondment to The Carlyle Group, working in its private equity legal team.

Mr. O’Connor's representative transactions include advising:

  • Bridgepoint Europe on its investment in PEI Group, a leading international provider of information, insights, and events for the global alternative private assets market
  • The ad hoc committee of lenders in relation to the comprehensive recapitalization of Flint Group, a global leader in printing consumables and services to the packaging industry
  • Urbaser, a Platinum Equity portfolio company, on the €390 million sale of its Nordic business to Cube Infrastructure Managers
  • Montagu Private Equity on its:
    • Acquisitions of Informa’s (i) Maritime Intelligence business and (ii) financial intelligence provider EPFR*
    • Acquisition of Waystone, and the related investment by Hg*
    • Acquisition of Miraclon, the flexographic printing division of Kodak*
  • Equitix on its acquisition (i) of a 20% interest in Viridor Energy Limited from KKR Infrastructure and (ii) Aurora Infrastructure from InfraVia Capital Partners*
  • Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan on the acquisition of Evoltz Participações S.A from TPG* 
  • The Carlyle Group on (i) its acquisition of Calastone from shareholders including Octopus Ventures and Accel, and (ii) its acquisition of Praesdiad from CVC*
  • The Carlyle Group and PAI Partners on their acquisition of Theramex from CVC*
  • The founders of ClimateCare, a leading profit-with-purpose environmental and social impact company, on its investment from Averna Capital*
