María Sánchez Picó is an associate in the Brussels office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the firm’s Antitrust & Competition Practice.

María advises clients on all aspects of EU competition law and represents them before the European Commission. She has particular expertise in merger control proceedings and litigation. She also advises clients on EU regulatory matters. 

Her experience covers several industry sectors, including transport (maritime), healthcare and life sciences, and manufacturing. 

Prior to joining Latham, María worked as an in-house lawyer providing corporate/M&A advice and completed a traineeship at the Legal Service of the European Commission in the Competition and Mergers team.

María’s experience includes representing: 

  • Mediterranean Shipping Company in the Phase II review by the EC regarding the proposed acquisition of joint control over Terminal Catalunya, operator of the Barcelona Europe South Terminal
  • Anglo American in relation to the Phase II EC merger control investigation in relation to Anglo American’s disposal of nickel mines to MMG
  • OMV Petrom in challenging the individual CO2 storage contribution obligation under the Net Zero Industry Act (NZIA) and its implementing measures
