Joann Murphy is a member of the Corporate Department of Latham & Watkins. Ms. Murphy began her career at Latham in 2003 practicing in the areas of corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions and general corporate law. From 2011 to 2014, Ms. Murphy worked in-house for a global sports and media company focusing on content acquisitions and licensing agreements in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Since rejoining the firm in September of 2014, Ms. Murphy has acquired extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions and both private and public company representation.

Ms. Murphy is admitted to practice in Illinois.

Ms. Murphy’s experience includes representation of:

  • Globe Specialty Metals in its US$3.1 billion merger with Grupo FerroAtlantica to create a leading international silicon and specialty metals producer
  • Koch Industries in its US$445 million acquisition of Oplink Communications, a leading provider of optical communication components, intelligent modules and subsystems
  • Goldman Sachs in a US$1 billion private placement of debt securities by W. R. Grace & Co.-Conn., which is a leading global supplier of catalysts, engineered and packaging materials, and specialty construction chemicals and building materials
  • A global sports and media company in content acquisitions with counterparties including the International Rugby Board, UEFA and the International Olympic Committee*
  • VIA Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in its US$10 million PIPE offering of more than 83 million shares of common stock and warrants
  • Reliant Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a specialty pharmaceutical company, on general corporate governance matters and rounds of company financings
  • CCC Information Services, an automotive claims and collision technology enabler, in its acquisition by Investcorp
