James Samson is an associate in the London office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the firm’s Corporate Department.

James advises clients on a broad range of corporate matters, including private mergers and acquisitions, public takeovers, and general corporate advisory work.

Prior to joining Latham & Watkins, James practised at an international law firm before moving to the legal team within the investment banking division of Rothschild & Co.

James’ experience includes advising:

    • As financial adviser and bookrunner on various cross-border IPOs, including CVC Capital Partners plc’s €2.3 billion Euronext Amsterdam IPO*
    • On its acquisition of the equities research and brokerage firm Atlantic Equities LLP*
    • On its acquisition of Redburn (Europe) Limited*
    • As bookrunner on secondary sales and placings, including a £38 million secondary sale of shares in Costain Group plc*
  • Pendragon plc on the £397 million disposal of its UK motor vehicle business to Lithia Motors, Inc. (with two competing takeover offers) and the related formation of a strategic joint venture*
  • Deloitte LLP on the separation and sale of its UK pensions advisory business to Isio Group* 
  • Henderson Park Capital Partners UK LLP on its c. £555 million acquisition of a portfolio of Hilton hotels and hospitality business from Aroundtown and LRC Group*
  • Tortilla Mexican Grill plc on its restructuring and AIM IPO with a market capitalisation of £70 million*
  • Various investment banks, including Rothschild & Co, Panmure Liberum, and Cenkos Securities (now Cavendish), on public takeovers, equity capital markets transactions, and other corporate finance mandates involving UK listed companies*
