Elena Satten-Lopez advises clients in high-stakes, government-facing investigations, leveraging her extensive federal government experience to provide strategic counsel on matters involving complex legal and reputational risks. Her practice primarily focuses on white collar criminal defense, as well as advising universities and companies on compliance with civil rights statutes and investigating allegations of harassment and discrimination.
Most recently, Elena served as Deputy Chief of Staff and Counselor to the Attorney General in the Office of the Attorney General at the US Department of Justice. In this role, she provided strategic and legal advice on department policies, processes, and engagement strategies. Prior to this, Elena was Counsel to the General Counsel of the US Department of Commerce, where she advised senior officials on issues related to artificial intelligence, export controls, and government ethics. She also managed numerous congressional inquiries and regularly prepared senior officials for congressional hearings.
Before her recent government service, Elena was an associate at a global law firm, where she represented clients in a wide range of high-profile corporate crises, including internal and government investigations, as well as congressional inquiries. Earlier in her career, Elena served as a Special Assistant and Deputy White House Liaison in the Office of the Attorney General at the US Department of Justice.
Elena maintains an active pro bono practice, including advising on asylum matters.
She earned her Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School and holds a bachelor's degree from Haverford College.
