Syed (Ed) Matin is an associate in the Houston office of Latham & Watkins and a member of the Project Development & Finance Practice.

Ed represents sponsors, equity investors, developers, and lenders in all phases of the development, financing, acquisition, and divestment of a variety of energy and infrastructure projects.

Prior to joining Latham, Ed worked at a leading law firm based in New York. Before that, he served as a judicial law clerk for Justice R. Patrick DeWine at the Ohio Supreme Court.

Ed 's experience includes advising:

  • Linea Energy in the debt financing of a 90 MW solar project, including a construction-to-term loan, tax equity bridge loan, and letter of credit facility *
  • MN8 Energy in connection with a construction warehouse credit facility *
  • Brookfield in a US$130 million debt and tax equity financing of its Goose Prairie utility-scale solar project in Washington State *
  • A major solar developer in construction, tax equity bridge, and term loan financings for a 20 project solar and battery storage portfolio across six states *
  • A major solar developer in takeout financing for a portfolio of US solar projects *
  • A renewables developer in a US$135 million back-leveraged portfolio financing *
  • A developer of energy assets in financing the acquisition of a 600 MW combined cycle gas turbine facility *
  • Standard Lithium in the sale of a 45% equity interest in its Southwest Arkansas and East Texas lithium projects to Equinor *
  • A private equity firm specializing in energy in connection with its bid to acquire a 7 GW generation/1 GW storage portfolio spanning 12 US states and multiple Canadian provinces*
  • A transmission developer in the EPC and transfer (BTA) of a 200-mile transmission line*
  • A multinational investment firm in the refinancing of a portfolio of hydroelectric projects in the Northeastern US*
  • The US Department of Transportation as lender under TIFIA and RRIF programs, including:
    • US$4.1 billion RRIF loan to the Gateway Development Commission for the Hudson Tunnel Project*
    • US$1.9 billion TIFIA loan to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for the Midtown Bus Terminal Replacement Project*
    • US$545 million RRIF loan to the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District for railcar acquisitions*
    • US$140 million TIFIA loan to the Hampton Roads Transportation Accountability Commission for the Express Lanes Network*
  • The US Environmental Protection Agency under WIFIA in a US$320 million loan to the City of Portland for the Bull Run Treatment*
