Deric Behar is Knowledge Management Counsel in the Financial Regulatory Practice, and a member of the Global Financial Institutions and Fintech Industry Groups.

Mr. Behar brings experience in US and cross-border financial services regulation and regulatory enforcement affecting banking, securities, commodities, and derivatives markets. He focuses on the regulation of fintech, digital assets, and blockchain innovation, and is an active member of the firm’s Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Task Force. He also regularly handles environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues and regulation as they relate to financial institutions and fintech.

Prior to joining Latham & Watkins, Mr. Behar served in various legal, compliance, and risk functions at J.P. Morgan, Barclays, and Bank of America Merrill Lynch. He advised on a range of topics, including regulatory change, financial crimes compliance, and risk management and reporting.

Mr. Behar received his BA from Boston University and his MS from New York University. He holds a JD from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University, where he served as articles editor for the Cardozo Law Review.
